53rd Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank
Chair of the Board of Governors,Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Economy and Finance
Korea and ADB will jointly host the 2020 Annual Meeting of ADB Board of Governors in Incheon, Republic of Korea, on 18-21 September 2020. ADB is an international financial institution founded in 1966, contributing to economic growth and poverty reduction through financial assistance in the Asian-Pacific region. Korea is serving as the host country for the third time following ADB Annual Meetings in 1970 (Seoul) and 2004 (Jeju Island). The 2020 Annual Meeting is more meaningful than ever as the year 2020 marks 20 years since Korea graduated from being an official development assistance recipient of the OECD. It is expected to be one of the largest meetings with more than 5,000 participants including finance and economic ministers, senior government officials, business leaders, members of non-government organizations, academics and media. Asia is the growth engine of the global economy and the major driver of innovation. Also, commitments for enhanced connectivity in the Asian region have been strengthened in recent years. In this regard, I strongly believe that the Annual Meeting in Incheon under the theme of 3Is, ”Asia 2020: Innovation, Inclusiveness and Integration” will become a great opportunity to boost shared growth and foster economic cooperation in Asia and the Pacific region. The programs of the 4-day event are not only limited to official meetings but also extend to various side events such as seminars on topics of “regional partnership through development of financial infrastructure,” innovation challenge events for private companies, one-on-one business meetings, and events that will highlight Korea’s culture, traditions as well as cutting-edge technology. I sincerely look forward to welcoming you to the 2020 Annual Meeting of ADB in the host city of Incheon, a gateway city of Asia connecting to the world by all ways of the land, sea and sky.
